9/11: Was There an Alternative?

9/11: Was There an Alternative?
Noam Chomsky

After the events of 9/11 a short, timely book of interviews with Noam Chomsky became a surprise bestseller. Now, after the assassination of Osama bin Laden, that book has been re-issued with the addition of a new introductory essay looking back on the past decade and arguing that the terrorist attacks should have been dealt with as a crime from the beginning, and not used as a pretext for expanding American hegemony through the use of state terror. There is very little new here, even the introduction being mainly a collection of quotations pulled from various public sources. In any event, readers of Chomsky already know what he thinks about all this, and won’t be surprised to find that he’s sticking to his guns.
