All Your Base Are Belong to Us

All Your Base Are Belong to Us
Harold Goldberg

Long-time videogame reviewer and columnist Harold Goldberg has written an episodic history of a form of entertainment that went from Pong to Gears of War, and even a kind of creative dawn to decadence, in less than forty years. The book doesn’t have much to say about the relation of videogames to the rest of our pop culture, aside from pointing out how juvenile most of them are, or really explain “how” videogames took that culture over, but instead concentrates on the stories and personalities behind some of the industry’s most game-changing games. An informative, if not always edifying read.
