Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin

Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin
Calvin Trillin

Forty years is a very long time in the world of weekly newsmagazines, and many of these pieces culled from the career of Calvin Trillin, “deadline poet” for The Nation and staff writer for The New Yorker, have dated badly. Some subjects – Y2K, yesterday’s pols, discussing who lost China (this in 1979) – have long ceased being headline material, and light, topical humour in general doesn’t play as well when taken out of its immediate context. A collection for hardcore fans only.
