The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt
Toby Wilkinson
In the three thousand years leading up to the death of Cleopatra ancient Egypt actually rose and fell several times, leaving British Egyptologist Toby Wilkinson with a lot of ground to cover in a general history that tells the story behind all of those colossal monuments and expensively decorated tombs. It’s basically a quick chronicle of names and dates tied to a simple and unsurprising thesis (Egypt’s rulers could be cruel autocrats), but it makes for an easy-to-read introduction that helps put ancient Egypt’s greatest hits into context.
