Wait . . . this is a zombie comic? I had to check because despite the title and basic premise, the undead here are only a dull pen-and-ink wallpaper. Most of the time they don’t even pose a threat to the living. Instead, the real horrors are the psychopaths among the survivors. It’s a zombie-apocalypse soap opera, which will no doubt help make the television series a big hit, but strikes me as lowbrow even for the genre (which is getting pretty low). Much of the violence is both over-the-top and pointless, with Kirkman obviously having a weird decapitation fetish. Pretty much what I expected, but I was hoping for something more.
