An excellent survey of the first half of the history of human civilization, and one that manages to create a meaningful mosaic out of a complex and still fragmentary record. While I didn’t agree with all of Kriwaczek’s modern analogies, his attempt to draw parallels between ancient times and our own are always interesting and worth consideration. As an introduction to the subject I recommend it highly.
