Death’s Shadow: True Tales of Homicide
Jon Wells

Jon Wells has polished and updated four tales of homicide that originally appeared as multi-part series for the Hamilton Spectator in this nice little true crime collection with lots of local flavour. In each story the emphasis is less on the killer (who remains unknown in two of the cases) than on the police investigations and the crime’s survivors. It’s that extra background and depth to the stories that sets them apart from less ambitious crime reporting, and what makes the book a worthwhile addition to any Canadian true crime library.
